The Hunawé Story
The adventure of a collective of Captains born in the wake of Club Chilowé: human-scale nature micro-adventures, as close to the living world as possible.
An adventure born from the outdoors, from collective spirit and the desire to continue
Hunawé came about something like this. Not around a business plan printed in twelve copies. Rather along the trails, at bivouacs, on train departures, over steaming coffee on station platforms, evenings in mountain huts and weekends outside that leave memories long after the boots are put away.
At the heart of it lies a group of Captains from the Club Chilowé. Women and men who have guided, accompanied, carried packs, lit fires, told the stories of territories, offered reassurance in the rain, laughed on the slopes, shared simple meals and watched friendships kindle between switchbacks. And then, when a chapter closed, something became clear: there was still something more to write together.
A story that begins on the ground
Not to do exactly the same thing over again, nor to remain trapped in nostalgia. But because certain adventures leave a lasting mark, and when the spirit is right, you want to open a new path for it. There was this conviction: a true adventure doesn't depend on the number of kilometres, the height of the summit or the stamp in your passport. It depends on how you inhabit a place, what you take time to observe, what you allow yourself to slow down for.
« You don't need to go to the other side of the world to experience something meaningful. Sometimes all it takes is a territory with something to tell, a guide who truly knows it, a small curious group, and the willingness to be fully present. » Even with wet socks.
A collective of guides and passionate observers of nature
Hunawé is not a brand conceived far from the field, between meetings and spreadsheets. It's a collective of women and men who live outdoors, work outdoors, guide outdoors, sleep outdoors, observe outdoors. Accompaniers, guides, naturalists, passionate about mountains, forests, coastlines, rivers, snow, bivouacking, climbing and trail journeys. Their profiles differ, their territories too—but all share a common thread: doing things with heart, rigour and consistency.
Another way to travel in the wild
At Hunawé, we believe in human-scale journeys, in the power of a territory well told, in the warmth of a small group. A vision of nature travel that is more thoughtful, more sensitive and more rooted: small groups, committed guides, territories chosen with care, low-impact mobility and low-carbon adventures. We love nearby departures that truly transport you, weekends where you slow down, treks that leave room for weather and the unexpected, bivouacs that reconnect you to what matters.
Why the name Hunawé?
Because we needed a name of our own, one capable of carrying this new chapter. Hunawé tells of a link between humans, nature and the path. It says something about how we venture out: not to accumulate destinations or Gore-Tex profile photos, but to meet, observe, slow down, share and return a little differently. For us, adventure isn't consumed: it's lived, it's walked, it's paddled, it's skied, it's sailed, sometimes it's bivouacked slightly askew when the ground isn't quite as flat as expected.
And now?
Today, Hunawé continues to write the next chapter. Through nature weekends, bivouacs, treks, gentle itineraries, mountain stays, forest adventures, coastal journeys—on foot, by kayak, by ski, by sailboat or under the stars. Hunawé was born from a strong human legacy, partly in the wake of Club Chilowé, and from the determination of several Captains to continue the journey together. Not under the same name, not quite in the same way, but with the same taste for the outdoors—and a few good reasons to lace up the boots again.
The next chapter is written outdoors. Human-scale adventures, guided by those who truly know the terrain.
