Day-by-day itinerary

Welcome to Guchen and First Mountain Evening

Welcome to Guchen and First Mountain Evening

Welcome to Guchen and first evening in the mountains

Your stay begins in Guchen, in a warm family home that will serve as a base camp before departure. After settling in, dinner allows you to get to know the group in a friendly atmosphere and begin to get into the rhythm of your stay.

This first evening is also an opportunity to present the raid schedule, to review your equipment and to calmly prepare for the days ahead. A precious time to gently enter into the adventure, lay the foundations and look forward to this beautiful Pyrenean trek.

First major climb and night by the lake

First major climb and night by the lake

Early morning departure by minibus to reach the village of Aulon, starting point of the adventure, at the level of the Lurgues barns. Very quickly, the trail climbs and the route gains elevation, first gently up to the Auloueilh hut, then more steeply towards the Aulon pass.

The atmosphere gradually becomes more alpine, more mineral, more wild too. After crossing the pass, the descent leads to Lake Campana, a magnificent setting for this first night outdoors. This is where we set up our bivouac, in an already well-established mountain atmosphere.

Elevation gain 900 m — 6 to 7 hours of hiking

Wild valleys and second high altitude bivouac

Waking up in front of the mountains, in that very particular light of bivouac mornings. After breakfast, we break camp, adjust our backpacks and set off for a new day of hiking.

Today's stage takes you through some of the most beautiful valleys in the area. After the hourquette de Caderolles and the passage towards the abri de Port-Bielh, the itinerary crosses the vallons du Gourget and de l'Estibère, known for their preserved atmosphere and wild character. A more isolated pass punctuates the day before the descent towards the lac d'Aubert, where we will set up bivouac for another night in the heart of the mountains.

D+ 700 m — 5 to 6 hours of hiking

Off the beaten path, between mountain passes and mountain huts

Off the beaten path, between mountain passes and mountain huts

This day marks a new stage in the adventure, with an itinerary even more immersive. After a logistics stop near the road allowing us to lighten the backpacks a bit, we set off towards the heights for a beautiful mountain day.

The route chains together pass crossings — Madamète, Tracens, then la Mourèle — in a very mineral atmosphere, between lakes, reliefs and wide open spaces. After the descent towards Lac Nère, one last climb closes this stage before arriving at the Refuge de la Glère. Tonight, it's time for the comfort of a hot meal, a roof and a night in bed, to recharge the batteries before the final stage.

After a restorative night at the refuge, it's time to set off for the last major day of this Pyrenees raid. The itinerary gains altitude once again heading towards the Rabiet Pass, before switching towards the Bugarette Lake.

A final climb then leads to the Bugarette Hourquette, the last major high-altitude passage of the stay. The Cap de Long Dam marks the end of this beautiful mountain loop. From there, a transfer takes you back to Guchen, with undoubtedly some nostalgia already and plenty of beautiful memories in mind.

End of stay

After breakfast in Guchen, it's time to close this Pyrenean chapter and head back.

A final quiet morning to share memories of the adventure, gently readjust to the rhythm of everyday life, and leave with what the mountain often leaves behind: slightly tired legs, a refreshed mind, and a strong desire to return.
