Head to the Southern Alps: a luminous mountain range, more mineral, more "big sky", with landscapes that already smell of the south. Here, the light has something special: it catches the ridges at dawn, slides across the scree, and finishes in gold on the peaks with the last rays.

You alternate between larch forests, wild valleys, mountain streams, alpine lakes nestled in natural amphitheatres, and panoramic trails where the landscape seems endless. It's the kind of massif where you hike for hours without meeting many others, with that rare sensation of being truly outdoors, far away, even when you're not that far.

At Hunawé, we love the Southern Alps for their perfect balance: routes that breathe, drier conditions and often more generous weather, ideal for trekking and bivouacking. We take our time, savour the progression, pitch camp in the right spot, and look up: in the Southern Alps, the sky is often part of the journey.

Summer is the season for major itineraries: lakes, ridges, suspended valleys, alpine meadows and viewpoints. Autumn brings larch forests ablaze with colour and the mountain becomes quieter. Winter, depending on the sector and conditions, offers a drier alpine atmosphere, perfect for ski touring and learning to read the terrain.
